Publication Process Overview – Area Editor

  • Evaluate list of topics “In Review” within your assigned section and select a topic to pursue.
  • Create a Contribution Scope for the topic using the template.
  • Invite a potential author via the built-in email function attaching the Contribution Scope.
    • Send follow-up email if a response has not been received within 1 week, 2 weeks, and a final reminder at 3 weeks.
  • If no responses were received or the request was declined, invite next potential author following the same procedure.
  • If accepted, send Guide for Contributors to the author with deadline (3 months) for article submission.
    • Send reminders to the author at established intervals until article is received.
  • Once submitted, upload the article to the UEE eScholarship system.
  • Select 2-3 reviewers and send invitation to review the article with the Code of Conduct attached.
    • Send follow-up email if a response has not been received within 1 week and if no response in 2 weeks, send a final reminder.
  • Once a reviewer has been confirmed, send follow-up email if the review has not been received within 2 weeks. If the review has not been received within the following two weeks, send a final reminder.
  • Once two reviews have been received, determine whether a third is required.
  • Evaluate reviews and determine how to proceed:
    • If reject – notify author with rejection template and begin process again.
    • If revise and resubmit – compile list of required revisions and send to author with deadline.
    • If accept with revisions – compile list of required revisions with Consent to Publish and send to author with deadline.
    • If accept – notify author and send Consent to Publish with deadline to return signed consent.
  • Once acceptable revised article has been submitted, upload to the UEE eScholarship system.
  • Send to the copyeditor.
  • The article will proceed through copyediting and layout.
  • You will be notified upon publication.
