Publication Process Overview – Reviewers

General guidelines for peer reviewing UEE articles

  • Peer reviewing is a collaborative process whereby independent experts in a specific field of research evaluate and provide critical feedback on manuscripts submitted to the UCLA Encyclopedia of Egyptology (UEE). Accordingly, this allows the editors to assess if the paper is accurate, trustworthy, and meets publication standards
  • The peer-review process adopted by the UEE is the double-anonymous review, where the identities of the reviewers and the authors are not disclosed.

The UEE Peer-Review Process

  1. The editors suggest an author for a particular entry and contacts the author to write the entry.
  2. Upon submission, the area editor reads the article and asks for clarification or additions, if necessary.
  3. The area editor sends the paper to two selected reviewers. The UEE peer-review process is double-anonymous.
  4. The reviewers read the paper and provide comments, suggestions, and recommendations within 4 weeks from the date of receiving the paper.
  5. The editor checks the reviews. In case of revisions, the journal resends it to the author, who then decides whether to follow the reviewers’ amendments and re-submit.
  6. When author revises their article, they are asked to submit a list of changes and any comments for the reviewers to confirm its suitability for publication.

Kindly review the reviewer instructions, code of ethics, supplemental data files thoroughly, and get back to the journal editors if anything is not clear and/or if you request any missing or incomplete items that are needed to carry out a full review.
