This green and black cap, which belonged to Nguyễn Tuấn Anh, a five-year-old boy who died alongside his mother and younger sister during the family’s attempt to flee Vietnam by boat in 1981. Their vessel, carrying 75 refugees, was attacked by pirates at sea. The shirt was later recovered by his father, Nguyễn Tiến Hóa—one of only two survivors from the journey.

Nguyễn Tuấn Anh was killed, along with his mother and sister, during a pirate attack of their refugee boat. His cap was recovered by his father, Nguyễn Tiến Hóa, and eventually brought to Malaysia where he finally landed after drifting at sea for weeks.
