Pants donated to the Vietnamese Heritage Museum
Donated to the Vietnamese Heritage Museum by Nguyễn Tiến Hóa.
This pair of light red children’s pants belonged to Nguyễn Thị Thủy Tiên, a three-year-old girl who lost her life while fleeing Vietnam by boat with her family in 1981. Alongside her mother and older brother, she was among 75 refugees whose journey for freedom ended in tragedy after their boat was attacked by pirates at sea. Her father, Nguyễn Tiến Hóa, one of only two survivors, recovered these pants from the wreckage.
