From 1955 to 1975, the world, with perverse fascination, ogled the first televised war and watched what they interpreted as yet another conflict during the Cold War. It was a fight between the "vile and parasitic" communism, working its way throughout Eastern Europe and Asia like a "virus", and the "beautifully angelic hands" of democracy, fighting on the front line to "save and heal" the "backwater" nations from themselves.
