This Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal, 2nd Class (Chương-Mỹ Bội Tinh) was originally presented to Lt. Col. Daniel F. Schungel in 1971 for meritorious service during the Vietnam War. The medal consists of a cross made of sun rays forming a cross and thin blade points radiating from the angles between the arms. At the center of the cross is a disc with a coiled dragon and an inscription that wraps around the disk, "DANH DU BOI TINH VIET NAM" (armed forces medal of honor). At the top of the cross are two palm fonds joined at the bottom. Lt. Col. Daniel F. Schungel later entrusted this medal to his adopted son, Dr./Mayor Trương Minh Ẩn.
