This wallet was kept in the jacket pocket of Trần Thắng Tài at the time of his execution by firing squad on June 14, 1982 at Hàm Kiệm in Phan Thiết, Vietnam. A bullet struck the wallet during the execution, leaving a hole. After his death, his wife returned to the site and recovered the wallet along with other personal items, including a stone, teeth fragments, and the string used to bind him during the execution (the string was not preserved due to deterioration). Trần Thắng Tài had been imprisoned since 1977/1978 for leading a rebellion against the Communist regime.
Object donated to the Vietnamese Heritage Museum by Trần Ngọc Ánh, in honor of her late husband, Trần Thắng Tài.
