Denim shirt labeled “JBM South Vietnam,” donated by Nguyễn Đăng Khôi. This was the first product manufactured at the Tân Thuận Đông Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in South Vietnam (Việt Nam Cộng Hòa – VNCH), established in 1974 and modeled after Taiwan’s Kaohsiung EPZ. The project symbolized the country’s push for economic modernization through foreign investment, job creation, and export growth. The shirt was gifted to Nguyễn Đăng Khôi, then Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry, in mid-April 1975—just weeks before the fall of Saigon. His wife later sewed two inner pockets into the shirt to carry documents and emergency funds. He wore it during his escape on April 29, 1975, passing through Bến Nhà Rồng, Cửa Cần Giờ, and Subic Bay, Philippines, before arriving at Camp Pendleton, California. Nguyễn Đăng Khôi preserved the shirt for nearly 50 years as a reminder of South Vietnam’s lost future and his personal journey to freedom.
