Worn Stories: The Fabric of Refugeehood

Group 2
Since the beginning of time, people have worn clothes out of necessity, for warmth, protection, and survival. But as societies developed, so did the meaning behind what we wear. Clothing became more than just practical; it started to reflect things like status, wealth, and power. As fashion evolved, adornments appeared, and clothes turned into a way to express ourselves, to show off, or to celebrate.
Over time, clothing also began to reflect culture. Think of traditional wedding outfits or ceremonial garments, they tell stories, mark important moments, and connect us to something bigger. Uniforms create a sense of belonging, while birthday outfits or heirloom pieces carry memories. Clothes aren’t just fabric. They shape how we’re seen, how we connect, and even how we remember.
