After two and a half days at sea, the boat landed safely at Pulau Redang, Terengganu. Quân and his wife were transferred to Pulau Bidong Refugee Camp, administered by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). There, he actively participated in camp life and contributed to daily operations through the American Refugee Committee’s (ARC) Education Project, which worked in partnership with UNHC.

Shirt brought to Malaysia

1981

Nguyễn Tuấn Anh was killed, along with his mother and sister, during a pirate attack of their refugee boat. His shirt was recovered by his father, Nguyễn Tiến Hóa, and eventually brought to Malaysia where he finally landed after drifting at sea for weeks.
