Made by Phước Huỳnh while imprisoned in a re-education camp in Vietnam, c. 1976–1978.
Handmade bag by Phước Huỳnh while imprisoned in a reeducation camp from 1975 to 1978. He made the bag from U.S. military nylon material used for temporary helicopter landing areas. The bag is decorated with flowers and apples and is etched with the name “Thanh Phương,” which he chose for his daughter after learning she had been born on June 1, 1976, while he was still imprisoned and did not yet know the child's gender.

Phước Huỳnh left Vietnam by boat in 1978 through the Pulau Bidong refugee camp. His family stayed in Vietnam and kept the bag.
The bag was later brought out of Vietnam, although it is unclear whether he carried it with him or whether his family brought it later. Date unknown.
