Typewriter owned and used by Mrs. Mai Công prior to 1975 for personal and professional correspondence in South Vietnam.
This typewriter was manufactured with the quốc ngữ script for typing in Vietnamese. It was owned and used by Mai Công prior to 1975 for personal and professional correspondence in South Vietnam. The typewriter was then moved to the U.S. when Mai Công fled Vietnam after the fall of the Republic of Vietnam. She kept it so that she could continue to write in Vietnamese in the U.S, where she was active in community and literary activities, including involvement with the Vietnamese Community Association of Orange County (VNCOC) and Vietnamese-language publications.
