Description

Uniform of Không lực Việt Nam Cộng Hòa (KLVNCH), or the Republic of Vietnam Air Force (RVNAF). Worn by Lư Chương as he departed Vietnam on April 30, 1975, following the fall of the Republic of Vietnam. Prior to donation, all medals and insignia (“huy hiệu”) were removed.

Donor description

Bác từng phục vụ trong Phi Đoàn 237 tại phi trường Biên Hoà  1971 — 1973 , sau đó thuyên chuyển về Phi Đoàn 241 tại phi trường Phù Cát 1974 —April 1975, sau khi có lệnh buông súng , bác về phi trường Tân Sơn Nhất,  may mắn được lên một phi cơ C-47 bay qua Thái Lan ở qua đêm… rồi KQ Hoa Kỳ đưa bác đến Camp Pendleton , Ca. , bác định cư ở Los Angeles cho đến nay, bộ đồ bay chi còn là một kỷ vật của một người trai trẻ đã từng phục vụ trong quân ngũ.

I served in Squadron 237 at Biên Hòa Air Base from 1971 to 1973, then was transferred to Squadron 241 at Phù Cát Air Base from 1974 until April 1975. After the order to lay down arms was given, I returned to Tân Sơn Nhất Air Base and was fortunate to board a C-47 aircraft that flew to Thailand, where I spent the night. From there, the U.S. Air Force brought me to Camp Pendleton, California. I’ve been living in Los Angeles ever since. My flight suit is now just a keepsake—a reminder of the young man I once was, who proudly served in the military.
