VHM_0015
Metal Guigoz can, approximately 20 cm x 10 cm. Due to their durability, these cans were often repurposed to hold/cook food and water. Those in "re-education" camps, for example, would buy/trade for these cans so that they could secretly cook insects, mice, lizards and other critters to supplement their meals and ward off starvation. This can belonged to Nguyễn Đức Trạch, who was imprisoned in "re-education" camps in Vietnam from 1978 to 1988, and it followed him from camp to camp. The regions of the camps that held him are written on the can: (from top to bottom) Long Giao, Yên Bái, Vân Giang, Lào Cai, Vĩnh Phú, and Z30D in Bình Thuận Province.
Object donated to the Vietnamese Heritage Museum by Nguyễn Đức Trạch
